Optimized process

I do a lot of corporate headshot photography and have strived to optimize the shooting process for both my own efficiency and the client's time management. Staff photos are widely used on the company's personnel contact page and ID cards.

Staff photography sessions can be done at the company's own premises, so the staff doesn't need to separately travel to a studio for the shoot. I set up a shooting station at the company's premises, which includes a backdrop and strobe lights to handle the person's lighting. The venue's own lighting doesn't matter. A normal-sized conference room or lobby area works well for this purpose.

I arrive approximately an hour before the agreed shooting time to check the shooting location and set up the backdrop (the backdrop can of course also use the office's own environment if desired, though often a simple neutral background works well) and studio lights.

If the photos require specific attire (company shirt etc.), it's good to inform the subjects about this in advance.

Depending somewhat on the shoots, we can photograph 20-30 people per hour. I take quite a lot of photos per person to ensure we get a diverse selection of images and expressions to choose the final image to be retouched from.

I do the image culling and deliver 3-6 of what I consider the best images via the internet for viewing, from which the client then selects what they consider the best image, which I then retouch. Image retouching means that the image's brightness, contrasts and colors are okay, and if there are blemishes on the face, excess redness, shine etc., I remove them. Similarly, if there's been a poorly slept night and dark under-eye circles, I lighten those as well.

Depending on my own calendar and the number of subjects, I aim to deliver the retouched images within 1-2 days of receiving the final image selections from the client.

Does the company have staff in multiple locations?

If the company has staff in multiple locations, this is not a problem. I have an extensive network of photographer colleagues in different cities, whom I can use as photographers when needed. To ensure the images look the same as those I shoot here in Oulu, for example, I instruct them on what lights, light modifiers and lighting power to use. As professionals, they can then shoot similar-style images.

Vincit Oulu staff photography

I photographed on TuesdayVincitOulu's staff (some of the subjects in the image) at their premises in the morning. In the afternoon I sent the proof images for viewing. Wednesday morning I received the list of selected images and by midday I sent the download link for the retouched images to the client.

What do your company's staff photos look like on the website? Do they look high-quality? Do they have a consistent background? Or are they phone snapshots each with different backgrounds?

If your staff photos need updating or your personnel has grown recently, now is a good time to get in touch, so we can plan staff photos that suit your needs.
