Hybrid Shooting: Capturing Reference Videos and Photography on the Same Day

Hybrid shooting, which combines reference video and photography on the same day, has grown in popularity particularly in the field of corporate and brand photography. This approach offers many benefits to the client, improving efficiency, consistency and cost-effectiveness. In this blog post, I go through the key benefits of hybrid shooting and the reasons why clients should consider this versatile approach.

1. Efficiency and time savings

One of the biggest advantages of hybrid shooting is its efficiency. By capturing both reference videos and photographs on the same day, significant time and effort are saved. The client doesn't need to book multiple separate shoot days or arrange for the same production team on several occasions. This means fewer disruptions to daily business and faster project completion. This naturally depends on what is being filmed and many other variables — sometimes it's simply not possible to capture all the video shots needed in a single day, and additional shoot days are required.

2. A consistent visual style

When both video and photographic material are produced on the same day, a consistent visual style can be ensured. The same lighting, environment and backdrops guarantee that all materials are visually coherent. This consistency strengthens the brand identity and creates a professional impression that resonates with the target audience.

3. Cost-effectiveness

Hybrid shooting can be cost-effective, as it reduces the amount of resources required. By combining shoot days, clients save on costs such as local transport, potential equipment hire and photographer/production team fees.

4. Flexibility and versatility

Hybrid shooting offers flexibility and versatility, as both types of material can be tailored to different purposes. Reference videos can be used on websites, YouTube, social media and in presentations, while photographs are suited to print materials, websites, various social media channels and newsletters, for example. This multi-use capability gives the client more options to communicate their brand effectively.

5. Consistent messaging

When both video and photographic material are produced within the same project, it ensures the message is consistent across all media. This is particularly important for brand building and marketing campaigns. A unified message helps strengthen brand identity and makes it more recognisable among the target audience.

CASE: Reference video and photography for NHK Group and Lely

I produced a reference video and reference photographs for NHK Group and their principal Lely at the NautaTuuliA beef farm, documenting the farmer's experiences with the Lely Vector feeding system.
