Cut-out studio images for 60+ services – Liikuntakeskus Olo
I photographed advertising images for Liikuntakeskus Olo's services for the over-60s. Olo is a fitness centre for women in Oulu, and 60+ is its own membership for those past sixty. The shooting day was at my studio in Maikkula at the end of June.
The commission came straight from Olo. The senior services needed advertising pictures of their own, and the models would probably be found among their own customers. And so they were: the two people in front of the camera were Olo members past sixty, not professional models.
The pictures were made against white so they could be cut out, because a cut-out sits on any surface. The same frame works on Olo's magenta, on white or at the edge of a leaflet, with no second shoot. I delivered them as transparent PNG files, at web size and at full resolution.
Olo brought the props with them: kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands, gymnastics poles and an exercise ball, plus their own mugs, towel, drawstring bags and headband. We went through the equipment one piece at a time, and I shot every movement both alone and in pairs. The pairs are where group exercise shows: a high five, laughter, a pole held between two.
I framed every shot loosely, from the shoes to the hairline with room around the figure, so a designer can lift the person out without a foot or a fingertip running off the edge. The background has no gradient and the floor no shadow, so the cut-out follows the outline all the way round.
The photographs are now on Olo's page for the 60+ services. Two of the women stand directly on the brand's magenta at the top of the page, further down another picture sits against white, and neither shows that a background was removed. The rest went into their other communications and social channels.
